Board for game

This was a simple Asymmetric prototype that was created by Daniel Olleman. The premise of the prototype is that some adventurers are trying to steal treasure from a Dragon. If the adventurers steal enough gold the adventurers win. If the Dragon moves a certain amount of treasure to the middle or burns all of the adventurers the Dragon wins.

Description

The prototype was designed by Daniel over the course of 2-3 weeks. The game is designed for 2 players. On each turn the current player roles a pair of custom dice depending on whether they are playing the Dragon or Adventurers and then proceed to move their pieces according to the movement rules. In addition the dragon player can capture adventurer pieces removing them from the game.

Rules:
Loot the Dragon’s Lair

Players: 2

Materials:

  • Circular Board

  • 1x dragon pawn (Red)

  • 3x adventurer pawns (Black)

  • 6x treasure tokens (Yellow)

  • 2x custom six sided red die (1,1,1,2,2,2)

  • 2x custom six sided blue die (1,2,2,3,3,4)

Objective:

  • Adventure’s objective: steal 3 treasures from the dragon

  • Dragon’s objective: consolidate 4 treasures into the middle or capture all the adventurers

Setup:

  • Place the adventurers on the designated adventurer starting spaces (A)

  • Place the dragon on the center space (D)

  • Place the treasures on the designated treasure spaces (T)

  • The adventurers go first and then subsequently the dragon and adventures alternate turns.

Turn:

  • Adventurer’s turn

    • Role two blue dice. This is the movement number the adventurers have for the turn.

    • If the movement number is equal to or greater than 1

      • Move 1 adventurer to an adjacent space and subtract 1 from the movement number

      • Move a treasure piece that an adventurer is on top of and the adventurer to an adjacent space and subtract 2 from the movement number. If the adventurer is now on the outside edge of the board with the treasure, remove the treasure from the board and place it in a separate stash pile.

    • If the movement number is 1 or less

      • The adventurers may end their turn

  • Dragon’s turn

    • Role two Red die. This is the movement number the dragon has for the turn.

    • If the movement number is equal to or greater than 1

      • Move to an adjacent space and subtract 1 from the movement number. If the dragon moves onto a space with an adventurer, remove the adventurer piece from the game.

      • Move a treasure piece that the dragon is on top of and the dragon to an adjacent space and subtract 2 from the movement number

    • If the movement number is 1 or less

      • The player may end their turn

Note: Neither player is allowed to move diagonal

Game end:

The game ends when one of the following conditions has been met: three treasure pieces are in the adventurers stash, all adventurers have been removed from the board, or 4 treasure pieces have been moved to the center of the board. If 3 of the treasure pieces are in the adventurers stash at the end of the game the adventurers win. Otherwise the dragon player wins the game.

FAQ

Q: Can the adventures capture the dragon?

A: No the adventurers cannot capture the dragon. They are equipped for quick movement and stealing. Not combat.

Q: Can the adventurers move through and steal treasure from the middle of the board?

A: Yes the adventurers can move through and steal treasure from the middle though it is very risky. If the dragon has 4 treasures in the middle the game is over though and declared a victory for the dragon.

Q: Can a player drop a treasure piece after they have started moving it?

A: Yes a player can move off a treasure piece at any time. When moving off the treasure the player moves as normal when not moving a treasure piece.

Q: do all of the adventures movement have to be used on a single adventurer in a turn or can I move multiple with one dice role?

A: You are allowed to distribute this movement number among however many of your adventurers you choose moving 1, 2, or all 3 in a single turn. The total movement of all the adventures cannot exceed the number rolled (i.e. with a 4 two adventurers can move one space each and one adventurer can move a treasure one space for a total movement of 4).
